Cathedral of Espoo / Catedral de Espoo / Cathedrale d'Espoo / Espoon tuomiokirkko

In English:

The Cathedral of Espoo.

This church is easy to reach from Helsinki. Espoo as Vantaa are neighbouring urban districts of Helsinki.

I have been visiting this medieval grey stone church in October 2005. Then I had just bought my first digital camera and I wondered what to photograph. So, I decided to start with churches and I realized that they are so beautiful and worth of photos. This was also because I am interested in history, art and culture and all these elements are found in churches. I included here my three photos from 2005 and the rest are from July 2008.

In July 2008 I had big problem to take photos, when I visited this church. There was no lights inside. The only light was the light that was the organist used for herself. Of course also that light which came through small windows. So, it was very obscure. I solved my problem by using ISO 3200 and also using the inbuilt flash of my camera. When You are looking my photos, then You might remember this, if You are wondering why my photos are not so good. Sorry.

About the Cathedral itself:

This Cathedral was built around 1480. The bell tower is from 1767. The red upper part of bell tower was renovated between 1868 and 1869. Inside the vaults and walls there are nice murals. Mainly they are from the 1510s. These kind paintings of murals are typical in my country in medieval churches.

No había luces adentro.

Seinillä on paljon keskiaikaisia kalkkimaalauksia. Kaunis kellotapuli on valmistunut vuonna 1767.

Espoon tuomiokirkko on vierailun arvoinen, ihastuttava hiljentymiseen sopiva.

Church of Elimaki / Iglesia de Elimaki / L'église d'Elimaki / Elimäen kirkko

In English:

Church of Elimaki (in the winter).

Wooden church is 155 kilometres to northeast from Helsinki. Landscape is typical Finnish countryside and due to that I want to show two photos from that landscape. The first one is showing a well and the other one is showing typical wind mill. All these in “winter land” full of snow.

The church of Elimaki is from 1638. Its form is cross church. This church is one of the oldest wooden cross church in use in Finland. Interesting thing that I found is that the bell tower is on the other side of the road. Bell tower was built in 1795–1797. Church is situated in the centre of Elimaki. Enjoy my winter photos, although I do not have inside photos from this small church. Remember to click photo, if You want to see in bigger form.

Matkalla Elimäen keskustaan on perinnemaisemaa. Niinpä halusin kirkkokuvieni alkuun laittaa kaksi perinnemaisemakuvaa.

Kellotapuli on rakennettu vuosina 1795–1797. Kirkon katto on paanukatto. Kirkon katto on jyrkkä, joten siellä ei varmaan lumi pysy pahanakaan lumitalvena.

Muistakaa, että kuvat saa suureksi klikkaamalla kuvaa. Nauttikaa talvesta maisemasta.
