Old church of Petajavesi / Iglesia vieja de Petajavesi / La vieille église de Petajavesi / Petäjäveden vanha kirkko

In English:

Old church of Petajavesi

The old church at Petajavesi (Pine Water) was built in 1763-1764 to act as a village church in the parish of Jamsa; the dedication did not, however, take place until 1778. In 1779 Petajavesi was made a subordinate parish and in 1867 an independent parish. In 1879 a new church was built for the parish but the old church was not abandoned.

Also this Lutheran country church is a typical example of an architectural tradition that is unique to eastern Scandinavia. It combines the Renaissance conception of a centrally planned church with older forms deriving from Gothic groin vaults.

Church of Petajavesi has been accepted to the Unesco world inheritance catalogue, and due to its strong handicraft tradition.

Piti käydä talvellakin ottamassa ulkopuolelta talvikuva ohi ajaessa, kuten huomaat.
